“Not My Cancer”

Hi! I am Eric and Not My Cancer is my website. Welcome!

My wife, Marissa, and I will be using this site to keep you posted on past and present challenges that we are facing. We will also have posts and links on important information that will hopefully educate, inform and maybe even entertain you.

Late August 2016 I was diagnosed with Stage II rectal cancer. This is the current challenge that I and my family are facing. I chose the name of “Not My Cancer” for this site because I reject cancer’s attempt to defeat me. There are several other “Not My…” slogans being used these days. The most popular seems to be “Not My President” by people who do not like that Donald Trump is was elected President of the United States. Stating “Not My President” does not change the fact that he is indeed the President of the United States. Stating “Not My Cancer” does not change the fact that I was indeed diagnosed with cancer. Words do not change facts. Opinions do not change facts. Attitudes do not change facts. “Not My Cancer” is not a denial of the truth. It is a rejection. I reject cancer’s power. I reject cancer’s attempt to destroy me. I reject cancer’s attempt to destroy my family. I reject cancer’s attempt to destroy my faith.

I would love for others to declare “Not My Cancer”. I am going to beat my cancer. I am going to survive. Unfortunately. there are many others who are battling cancer that may not survive. These people can also benefit from the “Not My Cancer” attitude of empowerment. We all need to stand up against cancer and support each other and help each other. Many people lose their lives to cancer but we don’t have to let it destroy who we are. This is my attitude that I am trying to share. Don’t let cancer destroy you. Do not let cancer ruin your life. Cancer might take your life but you get to choose how you live until that happens.

I choose a life of victory.
